Apollo 11, 40 years ago today we were on another celestial body.

We all know the famous quote featured above that Neil Armstrong spoke on his stepping on the moon for the first time.  How many of you have heard some of these perhaps lesser known quotes from the crew of Apollo 11?

Neil Armstrong:

“I believe that the Good Lord gave us a finite number of heartbeats and I’m damned if I’m going to use up mine running up and down a street.”

“It suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth. I put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth. I didn’t feel like a giant. I felt very, very small.”

Buzz Aldrin:

“Houston, Tranquillity Base here. The Eagle has landed.”

“Beautiful, beautiful. Magnificent desolation.”

Michael Collins:

“The earthshine coming through the window is so bright you can read a book by it”

“I plan to sleep, lie in the sun and read the flight plan … again.”
