And it begins. This game franchise has gotten so big that it is starting to grow out of the console. I will reserve judgment until I can see more than just a teaser trailer. The teaser had very little actual elements of the movie. It appears that it will be an anime-style effort. However, what I have seen thus far has not really impressed me that much.
I think what would really be impressive is to take the Halo universe into live action. There was great anticipation of such a move coming out in 2007. Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings fame) is behind the effort producing the big screen spectacle. Then relative unknown, Neill Blomkamp (District 9) was to direct the movie. Fox and Universal who were bankrolling the film with Microsoft felt that Blomkamp didn’t have the enough experience and were worried about the spiraling budget so they suspended production indefinitely.
Fast forward to 2009. A big screen version of World of Warcraft is announced. Even better is that Spider-Man director Sam Raimi will direct it. This revelation has been very well received. It only stands to reason that the talk will swing around once again to the live action Halo movie.
The first order of business for such a movie though will be to secure a new director. Supposedly Blomkamp will not do it after being snubbed by the studios on the first effort.
