My Biggest Personal Achievement of 2010

I have done lots of things I have been proud of over the years.  I find it very difficult to toot my own horn normally.  I usually like to sit in the background and help others meet their goals.  I’m just that kind of person.  I don’t need the spotlight shining brightly upon me to be happy.

That being said, I am pretty darn happy with the life choice I made that took me to the biggest personal achievement of 2010.  In fact that personal achievement meant losing a lot of myself.  Well in a physical sense anyway.  You see over the course of nine months I lost about 45 pounds.  Never before in my life had I been able to take off so much weight.  The best part of it was that I didn’t do it through some special program.  I didn’t buy any pills or powders.  I didn’t starve myself.  All I did was watch the calories I took in.  I go into much more detail on the journey to get there in an earlier blog post.

I was sifting through the pictures of the holiday season we just experienced and was quite shocked at what I saw.  I never realized how FAT I was until I lost the weight I had carried around for years.  Not a day goes by now where someone sees me and comments about how good I look.  Talk about a motivator.  I actually had difficulties finding nice things to wear over the holiday because I have lost so much weight that nothing really fits me well in anymore.  It was frustrating, but in a good way.

    Truly a worthwhile achievement! I know, because I managed to do the same thing this past year, using the pretty much the same “diet plan” as you – eating less and exercising more. I finally lost the weight I had gained when I had my second child (at age 40). The baby is in 6th grade this year, so it was about time.

    I’m new to the whole blogging thing, but my husband is encouraging me to share my weight-loss adventure, so I may check out your posts for pointers. : )

      Ellen…I am so happy for you, and I am delighted to hear you have had success with weight loss. Personally I think that we are often sucked into the hype of having to go on this program or that, and that if we just change our eating habits to more reasonable and normal portions the rest will pretty much take care of itself (i.e. you lose the weight from eating less…you gain more energy…you naturally feel like getting up off the couch…you get more exercise…you become healthier)

      My advice to you Ellen if you want to blog is to write, write, write…don’t be afraid to post anything…the only thing to be afraid of is not posting…developing writing is like a muscle…it won’t get better (bigger) if you don’t do it…keep at it and looking forward to checking in at your blog now and again 🙂
