2007…an Aha Moment in History

On January 9th, 2007 a company by the name of Apple, in collaboration with AT&T unveiled a device that would forever change the landscape of communication products to follow.  That’s right the iPhone was officially introduced to the public by Apple CEO Steve Jobs.  It wouldn’t start to be sold til the end of June that year.

Everyone has pretty much seen an iPhone now, but back just four short years ago, this was a game changer in the smart phone industry.  It was sleek and beautiful, and there was nothing like it on the market then.  Even now the device holds a certain awe that is difficult to describe.  Of course that depends on who you talk to, whether that is awe or spite.  For every person that loves the device, you will find another that is very “anti” Apple (I tend to fall in that camp myself).

This one piece of hardware would spark a revolution in smart phones that is only now in 2011 coming to a head.  As other phone developers catch up to the capabilities and in some ways eclipse this technological marvel.  The phone may only have one weak spot, and that is it is only available officially through AT&T.

That may be changing, however.  Rumors are swirling all over the place about the notion that an iPhone version might soon become available through Verizon.  Right now they are just rumors though.  Such talk has been thrown about on many occasions over the years.  Is 2011 going to be the year that Apple breaks free from AT&T?  Time will tell.  The larger question might be…will it matter?  With strong contenders in the market, the iPhone’s days in the prime spot might be numbered.

One thing is certain, Apple created something, and changed the standard forever.

  1. Sending someone a message…they don’t reply…they must be out…then they post a Facebook status. Great, they’re ignoring me.
