First it was my wife. she was weak, and tired for a lot of last week. Only now is she finally starting to feel better, except for a nagging cough that just won’t let her go. It wouldn’t be until the next “victim” that we knew what we had here.
My youngest daughter was that next encounter with the foe called flu. I hate seeing anyone get sick, but this virus really hit her hard. She was running a pretty decent fever of a 102 to 103 at times. She was hot enough to make her little tear ducts flow making it look like she was crying. In the Hollywood remake of the story (no really they will come, this story is just too good to pass up), those tears will no doubt be blood streaming out of her eyes. She has finally recovered to the level of just a nasty cold.
The third person in the family to fall into the clutches of this insidious virus was my son. He spent a couple of days sleeping it off. By this point, my oldest daughter and I were the last hold-outs in the house. I continually told her that we were going to beat this thing, we were going to be the bastions against the illness. I told her to keep washing her hands. That was the key to keeping safe.
And then she fell to it. It hit her pretty hard. She missed two days of school, and spent most of the day yesterday on the couch asleep. You could just look into her eyes and see that she had no energy at all. So much for the hand hygiene theory. In fact if there was an up side to this illness, it was that it has made my children sleep in past 6am in the morning. Maybe that will stick. Yeah, and pigs might fly, and I might beat this bug.
So here I am. The last hold out against an illness that I have seen countless coworkers come down with, and everyone in my family come down with. Will I be lucky enough to not get it? Well if you know anything about me, the word luck and I don’t seem to get along well.
So, with that in mind, I have a suit to get on right away…
