About a week and a half ago, I posted an entry about a little case of writer’s block I had going on. I put up a nice little photo of a piece of art I shot on a recent vacation my family and I took to eastern Nebraska. I put up the picture in a bid to gain some insight from my readers on what they thought its name was. Needless to say, they came up with some very creative names. In fact the names they came up with are far more creative than its real name seems to be. I’ll get to the fun and creative ones in a moment.
The real name for this piece of art is “SAC Man”. I know, not all that dramatic when you consider that this work resides within the Strategic Air Command Museum here in eastern Nebraska. Within the massive hangers are large groups of aircraft, vehicles, and other memorabilia that have been important to our country’s air defense over the years. This artificial man commemorates all of those men and women who have served in some capacity with SAC over the years.
Alright, now you know the true name. How about we delve into the names you gave this “guy”? First up on our list was inspired by a famous Las Vegas show, The Blue Man Group. They christened it “Blue Man Gone Patriotic“. They are certainly both colorful aren’t they?
Unfortunately, I’m just not sure that our piece of art above should pull off all the zany and visually entertaining antics that the fellas to the right are able to do so well.
So what else do we have?
Next on the list is no less creative, and taps into a fine piece of Americana. Although this one is far different from a group of guys with blue skin. Yes the next name was inspired by none other than our Autobot leader ally Optimus Prime. They thought it would be right to call our art up there “Optimus Patriot“. They do look a little alike don’t they? Although Sac Man would be considered Optimus’ very little brother at best. Prime stands as tall as a several story building. Taller than even the hangar that this art work calls home.
It does seem that they do like the same colors though. Red, white, and blue seem pretty popular around here for some reason. Although Prime doesn’t make an effort to show any particular nation’s flag since he is a friend to the Earth, and not just the USA.
Our next entry doesn’t focus on the color scheme. At least I don’t think so anyway. They decided to call our man up there “Air America“. No doubt the feature that caught their eye were the wings and jet engines jutting out from the shoulders of his body.
My personal favorite though has to be the last entry in this exercise. They professed that they could not come up with anything that was any better than the others that had been listed. They, instead, opted to simply name the guy “Steve”.
