Remembrance

I have avoided this particular entry all day.  Over the last couple of years, I have really noticed that this date seems to really impact me in a profound way.  April 10th is just any day for many of you, but it is my late sister’s birthday.  She would have been 41 today.  The chance to attain this age was lost to her when both her husband and herself were killed in a car accident in 2004.  The irony is even more profound since they were returning home from the funeral of my grandfather.

My sister and I had not been really close for many  years.  However, I find that as I do get older, I do miss her more and more.  This post, though short is dedicated to my sister.

    Hi Mike,

Thank you for sharing this part of yourself and your life. I too have lost a sibling – my older brother Steve – and miss him dearly, particularly on the anniversary of his death and his birthday. He died on a sunny Saturday afternoon while hiking Mt. Washington in New Hampshire.

It’s nice to know that we’re not alone in our greif, and that others carry the same type of longing for their loved ones who are no longer with us. Cheers to your sister, and my brother – may they be at peace.

Anniversaries of losses are always hard, but we have a choice: Use the day as a time to remember all the great things about a person and the memories we share with them, or spend the day sulking, bitter, depressed and crying. The memories may bring tears, but they won’t be sulking tears! Here’s to your sister and good memories of her.
