There is a buzz of activity here in the house this morning. There is a lot of energy in the house. Even I have tapped into it. Of course it took me a cup of my morning ritual coffee to get me jump started after a late night at work. It is the first day of school for two of my children today. It is also the first time experience for them both. My oldest daughter starts middle school, and my son start his public school journey with kindergarten.
For me personally it is an interesting time too. My son’s entrance into the public school system leaves one less child in the house during the day. Sure I had a single child in the house for a couple of hours a day last year, but this certainly feels different. It is one more sign that my children are growing up. It is one more sign that I am growing older.
Next year my youngest will enter kindergarten and this house will feel distinctly empty for six hours a days. That will certainly take some getting used to. But that’s next year…I have one more year to enjoy my last “little” one before she too takes those first steps into a larger world.
